A BRIEF HISTORY OF BOOM OF THE SUNSET GUN - NO MAP SINCE 2004

20 years ago, on the 13th of March 1989 my life got a whole lot of better. Scotland was in the grip of being destroyed by Thatcher and music was my mainline, the Roses were my band. The 13th of March was the day we first saw the lemons and paint. It was the call so many of us had been waiting for. I had been in on it since Elephant Stone and through the fog of high rise the Roses turned the rain to sunshine. 4 days later on St Patricks Days we held one big fuck off party and the Roses didn’t leave the turntable. There were good drugs back then n aw.
No Map started that at that party, not that me or Jb knew that then. I met JB in London in 2003; JB loved the Roses and had lived in Manchester in the late 80’s and early 90’s. We got to know each other, became like brothers, saw that lifetimes are a moment away and committed to leaving our mark on music. Our first attempt at a long player “Boom
of the Sunset Gun” remains in the vaults of the Soundlab but we’ll release it one day. After some acclaimed gigs as a 5 piece, a shady record deal and some great radio coverage, we morphed back to two again to focus on the making of “Once We Were Immortal”, which was released 2 years later in 2008. “Once We Were Immortal” is sublime LO FI electronic guitar pop that opens with “Take Me to the Rain”, a song sadder than loneliness itself. No Map has always been about overcoming the bullshit that surrounds us and leaving your mark, making life count. Resistance wherever possible, to the mundane insanity of state managers and cunts. The album peaks with “Colours Drift”, a shimmering slab of Echo & The Bunnymen, New Order and the Roses wrapped up in heartache and hope. “Before We’re Taken” did well as a single upon its release and “Where is the Sound” is guitars on E. “Lost Heart” speaks to all the sonic youth.
One year later and we are set to release our third long player, “Meet Us At The Top Of The Sky”, our best album yet. An epic ride fingertipping the what the fuck is this slide. Melody floods songs that spin and sparkle. Euphoric harmonies weave inside dense bubbling psychedelic wells bathed in simultaneous elektriconik symphonies.
Brothers and sisters it’s a fucking classic.
It sets for release this summer, it’s that kind of record, summer is when you can see the top of the sky. And you better dust down your sonic head gear and safety harness because we re taking No Map on the road. An 8 piece band playing a monster set to blow blown minds skywards; get ready for No Map Phase 3.
Album release date and gigs to be announced in the Spring.
